A Note from Father Manny...
"The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send laborers for his harvest."(Lk 10:2)
To proclaim the Gospel is not exclusively the ministry of Jesus. He started electing 12 disciples to accompany and learn from Him to become His future apostles, whom He could send to continue His mission of spreading the good news of our salvation.
It used to be the impression of the early Christians that to proclaim the gospel of God was the sole ministry of the Pope, bishops, priests and religious. But with the opening of Vatican II, the mission of Jesus became a shared ministry of every Christian in so many ways he or she can.
If ever we see the growing number of religious groups and movements in our churches and parishes, it is because Christians continue to respond to the call of God in whatever ministries in the vineyard of the Lord in this world.
I thank God for this gift of priesthood He has shared with me for 24 years with the opportunity to serve different parishes and ministries. I likewise thank the Lord for you all, my present parishioners in giving me the privilege to serve you despite my unworthiness and weaknesses.
Let us continue to commit ourselves in whatever ministries we can be of help in this parish because I believe that God created us with a purpose and a mission to fulfill in His Church. May St Francis continue to remind us that we are all called to become instruments of love and peace of God in this world. In the same way Pope Francis in this Jubilee Year of Mercy calls each one of us to become ambassadors of God's love and mercy. Amen.
